The suspension stops slide over the suspension strut rod.
They help prevent the suspension from bottoming out. 
The plastic covers protect the strut rod from debris.
 

VW Super Beetle 71-79

This bushing secures the lower control arm to the chassis on one side
and to driver (left) side strut assembly on the other.
The brass bushing presses into the control arm, diminshing friction
for the bolt that passes through it and minimizing vibration.

This is a stabilizer bushing. It is pressed into the right (passenger) side tie rod
where the stud on the steering stabilizer passes through. It helps to minimize
vibration in the front end by cushioning the contact point between the two metal
surfaces and absorbing some of the shock from uneven road conditions.
